A Suffolk Wedding That Didn’t
Wait for the Weather — Just the Love
ROMANTIC ALTERNATIVE WEDDING IN SUFFOLK
A Rainy But Radiant Suffolk Barn Wedding at Sancroft Barns
RELAXED, NATURAL PHOTOGRAPHY BY KEZIA TAN.
Some weddings are the kind where you feel lucky to witness full of love, laughter and that beautiful relaxed energy that makes everything flow.
Kerri and Saul’s Suffolk barn wedding at Sancroft Barns was exactly that. Set among open fields and
surrounded by nature, the day was all about joy, connection and embracing whatever the weather had in store.
I already had a connection with Kerri, when I photographed her during her first pregnancy we
did a maternity shoot at rendlesham forest. So being asked to document this next chapter in her life felt really special to me.
A Calm Bridal Prep Morning at Suffolk Airbnb
The morning began at a Suffolk Airbnb nearby where Kerri was getting ready with her bridesmaids and daughter.
Loved the cute detail of these handmade tags made by Kerri's bridesmaid
The room buzzed with quiet excitement while Kerri was having her hair done. Mai was playing nearby before getting into her beautiful dress.
Next up was dress time!! I always love seeing the bride glow and radiate in their dress.
An emotional first look with Kerri’s Dad had brought through a few happy tears.
It was a kind of laid-back Suffolk wedding morning that reminds you weddings don't have to be stressful to be meaningful.
Sancroft Barns A Beautiful Suffolk Wedding Venue
Sancroft Barns is tucked away in the Suffolk countryside and was the perfect location for a couple looking for a rustic
relaxed venue with a touch of charm. With its mix of a barn, grassy fields and even camping space
for guests it offers a unique suffolk wedding experience for couples who want
something a little more personal, alternative and surrounded by nature.
We had visited the venue beforehand and met Jeremy, who was very welcoming and made sure everyone feels at home.
Kerri and Saul had the option of an outdoor or indoor ceremony, they chose the barn
which was a smart move with the forecast, not that they knew that at the time of booking.
A Suffolk Ceremony Full of Emotions.
Despite the drizzle, Kerri arrived smiling and the atmosphere inside the barn was warm and filled with anticipation.
Mai walked down the aisle with one of Kerri's close friends setting a sweet tone for the ceremony.
Though she was emotional, she had a quick cuddle with Saul and took her seat.
When Soul saw Kerri walking in with her dad his face said it all - joy, nerves, excitement and so much love.
The ceremony conducted by Suffolk Registrars included heartfelt reading from Saul’s
mum and emotional reactions from guests made it feel beautifully personal.
As Kerri and Saul walked back up the aisle as newlyweds they shared a kiss with a dip,
a sweet spontaneous moment that got the crowd going!
Drinks and Unposed Magic
After the ceremony, guests gathered at the other end of the barn for drinks and nibbles (crisps always hit the spot!)
There was no pressure to perform or pose. Just plenty of natural candids and small joyful moments between friends and family.
The rain gave way just enough for us to get some couple portraits throughout the day.
Including playful ones with umbrellas and a spontaneous run through the field, something
I love to encourage for genuine laughs and movement. Kerri and Saul were totally up for it making the most of every
muddy or soggy windswept moment. My best advice is always to have fun with it, embrace it and be playful, and they did just that!
Food Speeches and A Flyswatter
The marquee reception space was the perfect shelter for the evening celebrations.
There were heartfelt speeches, hilarious ones including Kerri's dad wielding a flyswatter
in dramatic fashion and an amazing pie and mash dinner served by a KK Catering.
I often get asked what should we do to make sure we have spoken to all of our guests
without having a long line or for it to take up alot of time? I'll direct you to what Kerri
and Saul did which is go to ech table and chat to people at each table. This means it wont take ages and
people wont be restless and you get to speak with all your loved ones, knowing no-one has been missed out.
Extra bonus - this also gives me a wonderful chance to get some really lovely candid photos of guests.
What really stood out was how well Sancroft Barns looked after everyone from guests to suppliers.
It’s these little things that make a big difference for everyone.
Portraits with Meaning (and Hay Bales and Silos)
Portraits were split between rain showers and golden hour glows.
We explored the fields, farm backdrops and even sheltered hay bales.
One standout detail was with Saul’s watch a personal touch that made its way into the images
and the best part was the venue encouraged us to explore the grounds freely,
which for a wedding photographer who loves natural, outdoorsy setting is an absolute dream!!
We also took some time to get some beautiful portraits and details of Kerri while we were waiting for Saul.
Cake Cutting With a Sword and A Confetti Filled First Dance
Yes you read that right, Sancroft Barns provides a sword for the cake cut and Saul fully embraced the drama of it!
The first dance took place back inside the barn and because we missed the chance to throw confetti
earlier due to weather, we saved it for this moment and it was worth the wait.
One of my favorite final shots was of Jeremy joyfully sweeping up the confetti totally
embodying the spirit of the day: fun, relaxed and full of heart.
As I was saying my goodbyes to Kerri and Saul, the light was looking beautiful and they were glowing with joy and love,
I couldnt help myself and got my camera back out again and got these final photos of them on the field.
Final thoughts on this relaxed Suffolk wedding
Kerri and Saul’s Suffolk barn wedding is the kind of day I love to photograph: heartfelt, informal, joyful, and completely true to the couple.
From emotional speeches to muddy shoes and sword-wielding cake cuts, it had everything I look for as a storytelling,
alternative, creative wedding photographer, real moments that will matter more with time.
If you’re planning a relaxed wedding in Suffolk, London, Surrey or beyond.Whether it’s at a barn like Sancroft,
in the woods, or on a farm field and you're looking for a photographer or videographer who’ll capture the honest,
in-between moments as well as the big ones, I’d love to hear from you.
Let’s make photos that feel like you.
